The Direct Power Alliance convenes the whole power chain — generation, storage, distribution, cooling, and the rack — to define an open 800 VDC standard for AI data centers, and to prove it with a working reference architecture.
The internet became a standard because its governance belonged to no single company. The Alliance applies that model to data-center power. We are a neutral standards body open to equipment makers, data-center operators, research institutions, government bodies, and the established standards organizations. Members set the agenda through an open process of rough consensus and running code; the reference architecture is published, and the products built to it stay competitive.
AI racks are heading toward a megawatt each, and the industry is converging on 800 VDC distribution to get there. The direction is endorsed; the standard itself — the voltage convention, the protection scheme, the certification path — is not yet settled. That window, before the production ramp and the next code cycle, is when a neutral body can do the most good. The Alliance was instigated by ISS Mining, which seeded the founding effort and the first reference whitepaper, and is being established as an independent, member-governed organization.
Governance is defined in the Alliance bylaws. A board of directors sets strategy and budget; the technical work happens in the working groups, each owning one seam of the standard, coordinated by a cross-cutting track for efficiency, economics, and grid interconnection.
